This travel photography blog is intended for me to share my love of travel and realistic road trips. Hopefully I can also give some useful tips and advice from those experiences. I also have a great passion, although not skill, for photography.
These pages allow me to relive some of our breaks by looking at the photos and notes of realistic road trips and city breaks. I find that travel is superb for helping me relax, even though I don’t take “relaxing breaks” a change is as good as a rest.
I enjoy road trips and the freedom and variety they offer, whether it’s a 2 week tour in the US or a 2 day tour around North Wales. Realistic road trips are easily possible in Europe taking advantage of quick flight times and the excellent road network.

City breaks are now easily affordable and it’s quite amazing what you can achieve in a couple of days away. Also, how good it is to have the mental change. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
The posts are divided into city breaks and road trips and then further sub divided by continent or region.
The quality of the photos varies hugely, hopefully getting better as I learn and progress. Some of the trips are solo but most are done with my wife. My parents and kids have also joined us on some of the jaunts – a ‘who’s who’ gallery is below.
Photography gear
My photo gear has very slowly evolved, a Minolta DSLR giving way to a Sony something or other before that was replaced with the A7II. That was a disappointment as it just seemed to need cleaning every week due to dust getting inside it. It was a lovely small and light camera but too much work. My current kit is a Canon R6 with 24-200 lens, replacing my trusty EOS 6D Mk II with 24-105 lens.
I have had an interest in photography for the last 30 years or so and it, like my passion for travel, is very budget dependent. Although I have always used DSLR’s it wasn’t until completing my Advanced Diploma that I moved to full manual camera control.
I also use my iPhone for pics and there are times when this is far easier and more suitable. It is quite amazing how quickly this particular photographic niche is changing.
My camera pics are now always taken in RAW and have some editing in Lightroom, the phone pics are JPG and usually unedited. Editing is another area where the work invested can make a huge improvement!
