City breaks

City breaks are my favourite type of holiday. It’s amazing what you can achieve in a couple of days of sightseeing and I always find that within an hour or so of landing I am refreshed and invigorated.

The growth of cheap flights means that most of Europe is accessible for less than £100 return and there is just so much to see! Each city has something special to offer and a change is as good as a rest apparently.

There are plenty of companies offering weekend breaks and mine tend to be a mix of package deals through British Airways, Easyjet or Broadway Travel or hotels and flights booked independently. Usually budget is the deciding factor!

If you do your research beforehand (TripAdvisor is your friend!) you can generally fit in the highlights of any city in a couple of days. This still leaves time for whatever speciality activities turn you on.

Although the cities are obviously different with their unique culture and attractions it is very easy to wander around anywhere and it be familiar enough that you don’t feel too lost. Luckily English is a pretty universal language and it’s unusual to not be able to make yourself understood.

Most of the city breaks listed here cost under £200 per person for flights and hotels and some were only £100! UK ones tend to be cheapest but there are some great worldwide bargains too.
